The Elevated Ruffians - Watch Your Step Ft. Oh No + Magnificent Soul EP

The Elevated Ruffians are a collaboration of artists from ElevatedSOUL, a three piece production crew from Los Angeles, and the Magnificent Ruffians, a 2 MC and DJ crew from SoCal. I recently downloaded their album, "The Magnificent Soul" and definitely dig it, especially this track featuring Oh No. Using a variety of soul and Motown samples, this album caught my attention at first listen. Production is tight, raps are good....what else could you want? Oh.... and props to Kyle for showing me this one, never would have heard of it otherwise.

The Magnificent Soul EP is available for download here, either donate or download it for free...Enjoy!

This group is fairly new. If you already know them awesome, if not check them out. Heres two their tracks titles "Ring Ring" and "Beach Girls"...

Rusko!

Here's a little change up from all the new rap and hip hop, the second single off of Rusko's upcoming album "OMG" is now out and its called "Hold On" Ft. Amber Coffman. I've heard Rusko is taking it down a notch with the wobble but we'll see on May 4th when "OMG" drops. I know its a pretty gay name.

Portugal. The Man

These guys were super fun to watch at Coachella. They've been around for a while but I am just starting to get into them. People from Alaska just tend to be a bit cooler than us lower 48ers. This video is from a blog called 'They Shoot Music Don't They" - Have a looksee. Its fairly similar to Blogotheque.

Schools Out

Classes are over. Just gotta knock out a few finals. This is a pretty feel good song from Delorean called simple graces. It seems appropriate.

Memoryhouse

I recently discovered Memoryhouse, a chill-wave duo from Canada. Their E.P The Years has been playing on my speakers all day and after being on a recent hip-hop binge, it was good to listen to some semi-acoustic music again. A rising band, Memoryhouse's E.P features a perfect blend of acoustic/electric instruments backed by floaty, calming lyrics.
Recently released on Memoryhouse's Blog is a new acoustic rendition of the song "Lately". Originally released on The Years, this song has become one of my new favorites. Listen to their song below, and follow links to Myspace/blog etc. for more info...

When You're Strange

My dad was and still is an avid Doors fan. I remember the first time he introduced me to Jim Morrison and company; I felt like I was being inducted into some secret society. The delicate process of taking out the rarely used Bang & Olufsen, slipping the vinyl "Strange Days" LP out of its mint sleeve, ever so delicately putting the needle down, and instantly falling down the rabbit hole into a heady concotion of sound.
To be honest, I don't love to listen The Doors---some of it's pretty cacophonous stuff. I do love Jim Morrison's poetry and the ideas behind the music though, something my dad and I talk about at length. I think I've talked to Ry about how we think we were born in the wrong generation, and maybe that's why I don't fully appreciate it. Whatever the case, this film opened limited release on April 9 and I'll be pretty amped to see it when it comes to town sometime in May.

Dr. Dog - New Album April 6 'Shame, Shame'

The Roots recently reworked some of their favorite Dilla tracks and came up with this. Not much needed to be said here, this shits pretty feckign awesome...Download and stream all tracks at hypebeast.com....
