King Fantastic

King Fantastic is a L.A. duo that consists of rapper Killer Reese One and producer TroubleMaker. They have a different style of Hip-Hop, which they call "West Coast Synthesizer Beach Bum Gangster Rap," and its dope. The Reese can rhyme, and TroubleMaker's beats are different and funky. Heres his video for "Why? Where? What?," which I straight up love! Super raw, and the girl is a smoke show!

Here is another video for "HollyRock Jam Session." Loving the Bud Heavy can!

UGK

Been absolutely loving UGK recently. After listening some up coming Hip-Hop artists like K.R.I.T and Freddie Gibbs, its super cool to see where a lot of their influence comes from. Sizzurp sippin', swisher smokin' dirty south soul.

Ima Robot

Alex Ebert (aka Edward Sharpe) keepin it weird with this track and video. Ima Robot was a mediocre electropunk band in the early 2000s but this album (2010) was a departure into more a more pop oriented sound. As far as I know Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are still a band and so too is Ima Robot. Alex just came out with a solo album this year so he currently has three modes of musical expression at his disposal.

Beastie Boys?

haven't posted in a while so heres some of my new jams I been listening to.

Avicii's "Fuck the music" is a sick track with a really catchy soul sample and its got a nice new age disco sound to it.

Here's a sick new Beastie Boys song ft. Santigold

and last but not least heres a 50 cent song ft. Gucci Mane, it came out about a month and a half ago, dope track.

Smoke DZA

Smoke DZA has some good mixtapes to download on his Website smokedza.com. There are some nice productions and verses by Big K.R.I.T., who are currently on tour together with Freddie Gibbs. The tour will be stopping into Wilmington, NC on 4/19, and will be worth a go if your in the area. Heres a little sample of Smoke DZA.

King Mez and Khrysis

As a massive Little Brother fan, I have grown to love not only Khrysis' insane beats, but the North Carolina 919 Justus League style flow. King Mez has some great word play, and a good flow. Here is his mixtape The King's Khrysis, and one of my favorite tracks off the mixtape From the South...

Russ Chimes - Targa

This Russ Chimes track came out last summer in August 2010, and I never took notice to it. Russ Chimes has been one of those Djs I find very catchy. I'm not a huge fan of house music or techno, but something about Russ Chimes I dig. Drink a beer, smoke a spliff and enjoy the weekend.

Artist Profile: Shlohmo

"Audyssey + Yours Truly bring you The Neighborhood, a series of intimate interviews with local musicians and the music scenes in their neighborhoods. LA native turned SF resident, Shlohmo, has been taking the music scene by storm. Making all of his own samples, instrumentation, and vocals, his ever-evolving style has included lo-fi , hip-hop, trip-hop and dubstep sounds. Download Shlohmo's latest song on theneighborhood.tv." - L.F.T.F (Live For The Funk)

21 yr. old Cali. producer Shlohmo was recently interviewed and filmed by the guys over at Yours Truly. He's a bedroom beat-maker who, according to the blog Live for the Funk, played an incredible set at SXSW. Supposedly when his set started at 5:00 p.m there were 20 people and by the end of it an hour later, the dance floor was packed. I've listened to one of his albums and its some pretty experimental beat music. Cool to hear the man behind the beats talk about life, and music. Enjoy

Big K.R.I.T

One of my favorites off of K.R.I.T's new album Return Of 4Eva. There a lot of rappers out there who talk about bullshit, and my man K.R.I.T does the opposite; his lyrics are as real as it gets. Check out this one, let me know what you think.

Decemberists

I already posted a track of the new album 'The King is Dead' but I cant get this one out my head and had to share it. Heres a good live version. Only Colin Meloy could make the word 'panoply' sound normal in a chorus.

Sorry

Another Hip-Hop album that has caught my eye is Gasmask by The Left out of Detroit. This Album came out of nowhere and is considered one of the best rap albums of 2010. It is extremely raw, full of good samples and production by Apollo Brown, has hard rhymes, and a solid concept. Every track on this album is great, I suggest grabbing it. Heres a little taste:

Eric & Magill

Found these guys by following links on Kelly's last post. Thanks Kel. Pretty eclectic newish group with one album out. Heres a mellow dreamy track that fits well with my mood today. Go to their site http://www.ericandmagill.com/Site/Eric_%26_Magill.html for a free album download. Also, there are other free downloads (Faux Fir, and Decibully) on the 'Recordings' page. I guess the band also runs a recording studio. Enjoy.

The Walkmen

I know Matt posted about them a few weeks ago but I haven't been able to stop listening to the The Walkmen for the last few months.

Big birds

My first post in way too long. Island life means no internet connection and therefore limited access to new music. Here's something I came across and thought it worth to share.

Yellow Ostrich - Libraries -- maybe it's my pyromania, but I think this song's the tits.

This group is out of NY, NY and their first LP, The Mistress, is available for free download at their website.

Tyler, The Creator and OFWGKTA

SWAG

A couple months ago I heard a track from a 16 year old kid named Earl Sweatshirt from LA. The beats were pretty new school with some hard hitting bass. What really caught my attention was the content of the lyrics. You will see what I mean.... He is part of a group called Odd future Wolf Gang Kill Them All. Pretty bizarre. The leader of the group is a guy named Tyler, the Creator. He produces his own beats and recently has been getting some serious attention, including a performance on the Jimmy Fallon show. This group is like the eminem of old with more shock value.

Enjoy this remix. Remix of Lykke Li's- I Follow Rivers produced by Tyler, the creator. Its one of the cleanest tracks. check out his newest album titled Bastard

Manhattan

Buddy I met in Philly recently put this one together. Sick one Jeff!!

Toro Y Moi: New Album, DJ set, US tour

FACT mix 219 - Toro y Moi (Feb '11) by factmag
Toro Y Moi "New Beat" by carparkrecords
Toro Y Moi recently released a DJ set for Fact magazine. Pretty impressive stuff with tracks from Mount Kimbie and Motor City Drum Ensemble. He releases his second album later this year, with much of the album already leaked out there on the internet. Looking forward to seeing him live in two months. Apparently this tour he will be traveling with a band rather than doing it all himself. Should be quite the production.

Starting to dig on these guys. This is off their 2008 release 'You & Me'. Their latest album 'Lisbon' is also rather pleasing to the ear.

Panda Bear - "Atiba Song"

Cool vid, Panda Bear is one crazy musician. I've always loved the sound of all the claps, smacks and ssshhhs that skateboards make. Its even cooler when they sync those sounds to the music as done here, enjoy!

James Blake - "The Wilhelm Scream"

New Track off of James Blake's upcoming LP coming out in February.
