I will break my Noise nugz cherry by posting some OG Madvillain. Madvillain is composed of West coast producer Madlib and East coast MC/producer MF Doom. This is a track off of Madvillainy (their first and most popular album). Enjoy the epic sampling of a ZZ Hill track and the raspy voice of Doom as he continues to drop his linguistic skillz even after nearly 20 years in the game.

New James Blake LP + 3 Track Live Set

One of my new favorite artists of 2010 is James Blake. The 22 yr. old is officially coming out with his first LP February 2nd, 2011. Folks over at Gorilla Vs. Bear recently posted a short live set of Blakes', which features 3 new tracks off the self-titled LP. I've only listened to the first part, but it seems as though he is starting to integrate more of his own vocals into his tracks, which I find awesome. Sounding very soulful and almost reminding me of Justin Vernon, I'm anxiously awaiting this LP. Download Blake's short live set below and if your curious, follow the G vs. B link for more album info.

Dreams Come True

In 2008 three men from the north-east tried to start a rock n' roll band. This was going to be the cover shot for the album but unfortunately the album was never released. The band broke up shortly after this picture was taken, over a dispute regarding who would be lead singer. Although Hayden's (man on left) stage presence was far better then Murphs (man on right), Murph refused to let Hayden lead the band, stating "Hayden thats it, you've called me Barn-Ass way to many fucking times, I hate you and your fucking beard, and I'd rather fuck a elf then have you be our lead singer". It was this argument that split the band, leaving the album, and their dreams in the dust behind them.

Mount Kimbie/James Blake

This songs been on repeat since I heard it. I really dig what Mount Kimbie and James Blake are doing, resembling to me like some sort of electronic soul....

Star Slinger - Baby Daddy

Star Slinger just released a new track called "Baby Daddy". I guess its a sample from some Gucci Mane song. Awesome sound, love the 808 drums.....and look at that sweater...

I think I'm back into my dubstep stage for the winter, here's some sick new shit from the little emo bro from L.A. Skrillex. pretty tight electronic song ft. Penny?, then a whomper with a very catchy electronic side to it...
P.S. i know its alittle over done but hes got a sick "in for the kill" remix too.

James Blake

James Blake, UK post-dubstep/electronic soul producer, recently released a track called "Measurements". I never knew Blake could sing, and I sure didn't know that he could sing this well. Compare this song to any track of his popular EP CYMK and you will be quite surprised. If you listen farther into Blake's collection, you will find that the 21 yr. old musician crafts very soulful music.

"But Blake-- a young Londoner who has only released one single and a few remixes-- isn't really making dance music, he's making grinding, electronic soul steeped in Dilla and Stevie Wonder" - Pitchfork

So I got this cool sampler/sequencer (Native Instrument's Maschine) the other week, and this one is a product of the last two days. I flipped Smokey Robinson & The Miracle's "Baby, Baby Don't Cry". This is a rough cut but basicially the idea.

I thought that whenever id have enough songs to put together a demo, id name it "All Because of the Mustache".... maybe this would be the cover?... Follow the link to download the beat below.

Cape Canaveral

I have yet to pull myself out the depths of a Conor Oberst addiction which I have been supporting for about 7 years now, and if he keeps releasing wonderful folk tunes with the Mystic Valley Band I don't see it subsiding any time soon. This is a live recording of the first track off of his 2008 self titled release. It is not hard to see why Rolling Stone voted him songwriter of the year after it hit the web/shelves. He is already a rock legend at 30 years of age and is much more than the angst filled teen emo (which I still think is awesome) that many music fans associate him with. Please ignore the shoddy filmwork and the fact that the whole band is wearing sunglasses indoors.

New Sufjan Stevens

About a week ago Sufjan came out with an album that brought me back into his avid fan corner. I had strayed away due to releases like the BQE, an all instrumental artistic exploration of the Brooklyn Queens Expressway. His newest album entitled 'All Delighted People EP' is in no way your standard folk release but it delivers 8 more tracks of the daring, ambient folk that he had gotten away from in the past 5 years. The opener is an 11 minute opus and emotional rollercoaster that I have been trying to wrap my mind around all day. This beautiful track is a bit more digestible. Preferably listened to with noise blocking headphones.

Always makes me happy. Always.

Mount Kimbie - Mayor

In terms of updating the Nugz this summer, I've been lazy as shit. Work + partying = getting nothing done. Since June i've been meaning to post about this production duo from the UK called Mount Kimbie. Labeled as "Post-Dubstep", Mount Kimbie creates music quite opposite then the heavy dub-step you would stereotypically think of. Featuring chopped up vocal samples, extensive percussion, and guitar (something you don't hear much of in contemporary electronic/bass), these guys have an ear for music.

I'm a big fan of Mount Kimbie, and have listened to their latest album, Crooks & Lovers a shitload of times. "Mayor", one of the last tracks on their most recent release/Nug of the Week has become on of my favorites. Check it out, let me know what you think.

Heltah Skeltah - Hold Your Head Up

If I had to pick one artist that will always remind me of this past summer, I'd have to say Sean Price. I don't know how I didn't listen to this dude earlier because he absolutely kills it. Heltah Skeltah's (Sean P & Rock) "Hold Your Head Up" off of the 1998 album Magnum Force Proper is one of those kick back songs, and has become one of my favorites of this summer. Props to the Mantis for turning me on to this one. Download it below

One of my favorite parts of sleep is drifting into that ethereal space between reality and dreaming -- I love the way my mind ebbs and flows to different thoughts before my dreams roll in. Beat Happening: An XLR8R Article

In the last year I have been inspired and intrigued by many artists coming out of the LA beat scene. I've grown to love hip-hop and electronic music, thus feeding my interest for the new age of booms and claps. Theres just something about those behind-the-beat hits and chopped up samples that get my head bobbing. My love for beats started with J Dilla and has transcended upon artists such as Baths, Flying Lotus, and Alex B. XLR8R, one of my most viewed blogs, recently dedicated an article to the rising of Beat music. Regardless if you like this genre of music or not, its cool to hear about a style of music that was born in LA had has grown across the country. Check it out below....

Hard Mix - Memories & Alright

Greenville, South Carolina resident Noah Smith A.k.a Hard Mix has recently come out with two tracks that I find quite impressive. South Carolina seems to continually produce catchy "Chillwave" artists. What distinguishes Hard Mix from his South Carolinian cohorts however, is his incorporation of classic samples in his music. Using samples from Marvin Gaye and The Supremes, Hard Mix adds a touch of R&B into the mix, which is well received. Check out his latest two tracks "Memories" and "Alright", and be sure to keep an eye out for this guy.

Ayatollah - Lonely Girl

Thanks to the guys over at Potholesinmyblog for turning me onto this one. Hip-hop producer Ayatollah is set to release his 6th LP entitled "Cocoon" on July 20th. Having produced beats for the likes of Sean P, Mos Def, and Talib Kweli, Ayatollah is definitely a talented dude. Check out the latest track, "Lonely Girl", off of "Cocoon".

New Delta Spirit and Tokyo Police Club

I spent the day with Madam Christie and Mr. Thomas Wojda in Louisville, KY and we stumbled upon these two new releases. Delta Spirit and Tokyo Police Club are two of my favorite young groups and both of these sophomore releases are steps in a good direction. Hooray for rock and roll!
