My dad was and still is an avid Doors fan. I remember the first time he introduced me to Jim Morrison and company; I felt like I was being inducted into some secret society. The delicate process of taking out the rarely used Bang & Olufsen, slipping the vinyl "Strange Days" LP out of its mint sleeve, ever so delicately putting the needle down, and instantly falling down the rabbit hole into a heady concotion of sound.
To be honest, I don't love to listen The Doors---some of it's pretty cacophonous stuff. I do love Jim Morrison's poetry and the ideas behind the music though, something my dad and I talk about at length. I think I've talked to Ry about how we think we were born in the wrong generation, and maybe that's why I don't fully appreciate it. Whatever the case, this film opened limited release on April 9 and I'll be pretty amped to see it when it comes to town sometime in May.
