This week's Album Of The Week goes to Hudson Mohawke's Polyfolk Dance EP. Blending electronic textures with hip-hop drum and bass, Hudson Mohawke progressively mixes two of my favorite genres of music; Hip-hop and electronic. Hudson Mohawke's Polyfolk Dance EP is an intricate, yet accessible album that to me truly represents modern day electronica.
Although I am a fan of every track on the album, the first three tracks stand out. The opening track, "Polkadot Blues" is an upbeat tune with layers of brightly toned synth and a bumping bass line (definitely some Passion Pit steez goin on with this one). "Monde", the second track on the album, is spacier and more chilled out. Its got a killer bass line though, one that stands out amongst the album and makes the song. Possibly my favorite and most amped out track on the album is "Overnight", the third track on the EP. Depending on how you hear it, one could argue that this track is straight hip-hop, as it features a busy drum loop backed by some nasty cut up vocals.
Hudson Mohawkes album features 6 songs all of which I enjoy. If your a fan of electronic and or hip-hop, check the album out. Attached is the track "Polkadot Blues", as well as links to his myspace and record label, Warp Records, Enjoy!
